The HIRDA AFT Tournament took place on 20 and 21 December at Sporthallen Zuid in Amsterdam, marking a successful and vibrant celebration of football, youth engagement, and community unity as part of AFT’s 20th Anniversary year.
A total of 18 teams, each consisting of 10 players, participated in this year’s tournament. Teams traveled from across the Netherlands and Belgium, highlighting the tournament’s role in connecting Somali youth across borders and strengthening European Somali networks through sport.
The event attracted a large and enthusiastic public audience, with families, friends, and community members coming to watch and support the teams. The atmosphere was lively and positive, enhanced by the presence of artists and DJs, who added energy and entertainment throughout the two days.
The tournament showcased not only strong football talent, but also teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. Players demonstrated passion and commitment, reflecting the core values of AFT Tournament: unity, respect, and youth empowerment.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the semi-final and final matches were postponed. These decisive matches are expected to be held in January or February, and HIRDA will announce the confirmed dates and venue in due course.
Despite this adjustment, the tournament was widely regarded as a great success, bringing together players, supporters, organizers, and partners in a spirit of celebration and community.
HIRDA AFT extends heartfelt thanks to all participating teams, volunteers, referees, artists, DJs, and supporters who contributed to the success of the event. Special appreciation also goes to Talk Remittance for their continued financial support.
HIRDA remains committed to building on this momentum using sport as a powerful tool to unite youth, nurture talent, and strengthen our community.
