Threat of new IDP’s is imminent in Gedo

On 15th of January 2016 the military base of AMISOM troops in El Adde, Gedo region has been attacked by Al-Shabaab militants. The group claimed the responsibility adding that they have captured members of Kenyan Force troops. In retaliation to the attack the Kenyan Defense force carried out air strikes that reportedly effected the whole region of Gedo.

It is also reported that there have been considerable amount of civilian casualties. There are 8600 people who also reportedly left El-adde, Likooley and nearby villages. According to Somali Protection Cluster, due to the airstrikes there will be more displacement in near future.  This region have previously  endured airstrikes which resulted civilian casualties, displacement, loss of livestock and destruction of water sources.
