The crisis in the Horn of Africa is deepening but so is our commitment. As drought, conflict, and economic instability continue to threaten millions of lives across the Horn of Africa, HIRDA is stepping up with an urgent humanitarian response focused on food distribution, diaspora engagement, and advocacy. Our goal is to deliver immediate relief while building long-term resilience and mobilizing global solidarity.

HIRDA’s Diaspora for Climate Action links diaspora expertise with local communities to tackle climate change in Somalia. The program raises awareness through campaigns and workshops, builds the capacity of local partners to plan and manage climate initiatives, and develops clean energy projects such as solar power and energy-efficient technologies. Together, these efforts strengthen climate resilience and promote a sustainable future.

HIRDA’s Education program works with diaspora partners and local communities to expand access to quality learning in Somalia. Through the Diaspora Academy, teachers and professionals abroad share expertise to train educators and improve teaching standards. The Sponsorship initiative helps children from low-income families stay in school by covering fees, materials, and other essentials. In parallel, school gardens, building rehabilitation, and the provision of learning materials create safer and more supportive learning environments. Together, these efforts give children the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a better future.

HIRDA’s Sport program uses athletics to bring communities together and create opportunities for young people. Through Integration & Sport, we help youth from different backgrounds connect, learn, and grow in a spirit of inclusion. Our Sport for Peace initiatives use games and tournaments to promote dialogue, teamwork, and conflict resolution. The annual AFT Football Tournament unites teams from across the Somali diaspora, inspiring young people and strengthening community ties through sport.
